The recently launched “Sing in Irish” interactive online course offers participants the opportunity to learn to sing four “iconic” Irish songs confidently. Four more songs will be added in the coming months, all of which will be accessible to participants at no extra cost.

Open to those of all levels of Irish and singing ability, the course provides expert-led, step-by-step phonetic pronunciation and translation guidance, as well as detailed historical, folkloric and contextual information for each song, making it as much a cultural exploration as a musical one. The course offers video and audio multi-modal resources and phone-friendly PDFs to enhance learning. It includes lifetime access to all materials, such as downloadable lyric sheets, allowing participants to sing anytime, anywhere.

The songs currently taught in the course are “Óró ‘sé do Bheatha Abhaile”, “Báidín Fheilimí”, “An Poc ar Buile” and “Óró mo Bháidín”, with more songs set to be added in March.

The course was developed by the Bitesize Irish team and is led by Niall Ó Siadhail, an award-winning Irish language writer from Co. Tyrone and content developer at Bitesize Irish.

“This course isn’t just about learning songs”, explains Eoin Ó Conchúir, founder of Bitesize Irish.

“It’s about finding your way back to a connection that feels personal and alive. We’re thrilled to see how people are connecting with the historical and cultural aspects of the songs and authentically connecting with the songs.”

It is widely accepted that singing helps people learn languages in a more natural and intuitive way, building confidence along the way. For those hesitant about their singing ability or lack of fluency in Irish, the course offers reassurance: perfection is not the goal. Instead, the emphasis is on connection, participation and the joy of sharing culture through song.

The motto of Bitesize Irish is “Gaeilge Gach Lá” (meaning “Irish Every Day”). Since its founding in 2010, Bitesize Irish has supported thousands in reclaiming their connection to the language. With this latest initiative, the team aims to extend that mission to the medium of traditional Irish song by inviting a global audience to participate in a living tradition.
